are there any limits on the number of hours a local authority will provide for care in the home and what can they/cant they be expected to do?

Have you tried asking your local Citizen’s Advice Bureau? They often help with government policies etc.

I know you posted a while ago, but others in your situation might find it useful to take a look at a news website called http://www.overthefence.org.uk

It’s been developed by a charity called Outside the Box with the help of Scottish Government funding to help people access the support they need and has lots of good advice and tips. Your query made me think about one of the stories on there posted about a man who got help from social work to ‘get on the books’ of a care home for respite care if he was ill or needed a bit of extra support. He didn’t want full-time care but it reassured both him and his family that there was back-up. Maybe something you could investigate in your area?

    His story is here: http://www.overthefence.org.uk/stories/bill-family-were-worried/

    Good luck!
